2025-2026 Spiritual Growth for Children and Teens

Registering your child for programming helps us get to know your family and helps us create programs that are safe, accessible, and responsive to the needs of our children and teens.

Please read the descriptions of each program: some of our programs have a registration deadline, while others you can register for throughout the year.

***REGISTRATION HELPFUL, DROP-INS ARE WELCOME:

Sunday Nursery Care for 6 months-3 years | Sundays 9am & 11am, Wednesdays 5:45pm-8pm
Wednesday Nursery Care | 6pm-8:30pm | Ages 3 & under
Drop-in care for babies and toddlers.
While babies and toddlers are always welcome to attend services and events with you, we are happy to be a part of the village that helps to care for you and your child. We have a pager system so that staff can reach caregivers when needed, and our loving staff will check in with you about your child’s needs to help you and your child feel at home in our Nursery.
Pre-registration is not required for our Sunday and Wednesday care, but it is appreciated to help us get to know you and your child. Space is also limited in our Nursery on a first-come basis.

WBUUC Kids Club | Sunday, 9am & Wednesday 6:30pm | Ages 4 & up
A drop-in space with informal games and crafts held by WBUUC staff and volunteers. Pre-registration for this group is helpful but not required.

***REGISTRATION REQUIRED & CLOSES AFTER OCTOBER 1:
Sunday Coming of Age for 9th and 10th grade | 9am only | Registration deadline: September 15, 2025
Coming of Age is a rite of passage program unique to Unitarian Universalism that celebrates our youth as they make the transition from childhood into spiritual maturity and responsibility. UU congregations all over the globe celebrate Coming of Age by setting aside special space for youth to engage in reflection, discernment, and celebration alongside adult mentors who help guide them. Families often identify this class as a deep and meaningful bonding experience for the whole family. Our hope is that you and your youth will emerge from the group with increased confidence, self-awareness, and skills for living well with spirit and purpose.

***REGISTRATION REQUIRED, BUT OPEN THROUGHOUT THE YEAR:
(Please note that for these programs, starting in October, we will add new registrations to the class the week following your registration. This allows staff the time to ensure that we have name tags, accommodation, and staffing in place.)

Chalice Children (Ages 3&4) | Sundays 11am only
Chalice Children is our pre-k program for 3 & and 4-year-olds, led by our childcare staff. In this class, we begin to introduce story time, a chalice, and a feelings check-in. Chalice Children also have plenty of Choice Time to explore toys and crafts. Parents can choose to drop off children before the start of the service, or have kids begin in the worship service.

Sunday Circles for Children and Youth K-6th | 11am only
Sunday Circles are small groups, divided up by grade cohorts and led by volunteer facilitators. Circles explore our monthly themes through wisdom stories, games, art, and experiences. Our primary focus in these circles is relationship: kids get to know themselves, one another, their adult leaders, and their congregation on a deeper level as we grow and serve together.
Each Sunday, children start in the worship service at 11am (check-in at the Spiritual Growth Table on your way in!), and then leave with their facilitators for circles after the story. Circles end at 12:20pm.

Sunday circle schedules include:
Circle Sunday (most weeks, circles divided by grade)
Chapel Sundays (All circles together led by staff)
Worship Visits (each circle will take a turn attending worship with their cohort and facilitators)
Multigenerational Sundays (kids attend the entire worship service with their families)

Grade cohorts will be determined as families register with classes of 8-10 per circle in mind. Families will be sent a full schedule and circle assignments.

Crossing Paths (Grades 7&8) | 11am Only
Crossing Paths is a world religions program for 7th and 8th-grade youth, and is rooted in our value of religious pluralism. This program is designed to challenge youth to think theologically, learn distinctive UU spiritual practices, and strengthen their relationship with their home church community and other faith communities in our area.
This class schedule includes field trips to visit other faith communities. Because we are learning about how to be intentional, gracious guests in other faith communities, consistent attendance is strongly recommended.

High School Youth Group (Grades 9-12) | 11am Sundays
Explore the monthly theme through games, activities, discussion, connection, and more. The schedule will include some multigenerational worship on Sundays.

Youth Guides (Grades 7-12) | Sundays at 9am & Wednesday Evenings
Some of us learn and connect best by leading! Youth Guides are youth in grades 7-12 who are interested in taking on a leadership role in our WBUUC Kids Club on Sundays and/ or Wednesdays. Youth in this role will help younger kids engage in activities and with activity set up and clean up.
Youth Guides will have opportunities to plan outings and events throughout the year to celebrate their leadership!

Accessibility and Medical Needs

It is important to us to create an accessible, safe, and welcoming space for our children, youth, and families. It can be helpful for us to know if there are accommodations that help your child in school, at home, or other settings, or if there is anything that can help us get to know your child.

Family Involvement and Orientation

Spiritual Growth at WBUUC is not just an individual journey, but an invitation to deepen community. When families register for our programming, we ask them to:

-Attend an orientation meeting before your child starts to attend programming (please watch your email for dates and times for in-person and virtual orientation meetings)

-Have one adult from each household sign up to visit a classroom at least once during the program year. (A link for sign-up will be sent out to families.)

We hope that this helps families connect to one another and to the larger WBUUC community, helps our families understand the expectations and goals of our programming, and helps our parents and guardians learn more about Unitarian Universalism.

If one or both of these requirements are not possible for your family, please do not hesitate to reach out to Amy or Matt! We look forward to being in conversation!
